CURRENT ADDRESSES Please call the Township Hall when changing your mailing addresses. This will help to keep our records up -to -date so you will receive your billings in a timely manner. Returned Checks A $30.00 fee will be collected for each check returned to the Township for lack of funds and/or closed account. Paying Bills If you are using an online bill paying service to pay your water or tax bills, please include your correct account number for water bills or tax ID number for taxes. This will help us credit your payment to the right account. Arenac County Website Arenac County now has a website with a lot of County information available to our residents. You can now pay delinquent taxes by going to the County website and using the link for the Treasurer on the left-hand side. You will then go the bottom of the page for the link to delinquent taxes. There is a $2.00 fee to pay your delinquent taxes using this site. There is also a link on the County homepage where you can look up assessment and tax information for any property in Arenac County. You will look at the links on the left-hand side for the Equalization Department. Once you are there go the bottom of the page to the link for property assessments and taxes. Vehicles on the Beaches Please be advised that it is a Michigan State Law, that you cannot drive a motorized vehicle on any beach in the State of Michigan. Call the Sheriff, DEQ, DNR, or State Police to report violations. Reminder Please do not put unstamped mail in the Township’s US Postal Mailbox. Please drop bills in drop box by the Township Hall door. If unstamped mail is put in mail box it is picked up and held by the post office until postage is paid Regular Monthly Township Board Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., unless posted otherwise. The new Sims -Whitney Water Plant should be operating by the end of the year. The Township Board would also like to wish everyone a happy holiday season and good winter wherever you might be. After more than 20 years of service to the Sims -Whitney Water Authority Duane Pendred is retiring at the end of December, so if you see him congratulate him and thank him for his service. A Note from the Assessor’s Office Happy Holidays! If you would like to split or combine property, please submit ALL requests to the Township on or before December 20th, for the change to take place in the 2018 tax year. NO LAND DIVISIONS FOR 2018 WILL BE PROCESSED AFTER DECEMBER 31st. As we wrap up our end of the year property reappraisals, it is possible a field auditor will visit your property to perform an exterior inspection. The December Board of Review will be meeting Tuesday December 12th at 11am to correct qualified errors. No appeals will be heard at that meeting. The Quarry Property on Noble Road has been sold and is now privately owned and is not included in the HAP Program. Building Permits The following steps must be taken to obtain a Building Permit: 1. Contact the Zoning Administrator for a land use permit. At that time, it will be determined if your project conforms to our Township Zoning. 2. When building a new home, and also with some additions, a Septic Permit will be required. You will get this from the Arenac County Health Department. (989) 846 -6541 3. The Zoning Administrator will determine if you need a soil erosion permit, (from the Arenac Building Dept.). After you have all the proper permits the Zoning Administrator will issue you a Land Use Permit. 4. You must then obtain a Building Permit from the Arenac County Building Department, located in the County Building in Standish. (989) 846 -9791 Transfer Station Hours and Services Winter Hours October to Memorial Day Monday, Wednesday, & Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Summer Hours Memorial Day to the end of September Monday, Wednesday, & Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday Noon to 4:00 p.m. Large items may be disposed of for a nominal fee on Memorial Day & Labor Day Weekends Leaves & grass clippings may be taken to the Transfer Station for composting. Building Material, Motor Oil and Tires cannot be taken to the Transfer Station. You can contact Waste Management in East Tawas, (989) 362 -9562, for information on proper disposal of Building Materials. Recycling is being operated by Sunrise Disposal during regular Transfer Station Hours. *Cardboard, papers, and magazines *Mixed plastics, #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 *Tin and aluminum cans *Glass bottles and jars (all colors) *Scrap Metal TO ALL RESIDENTS THERE IS FREE COMPOST AVAILABLE AT THE TRANSFER STATION. We are replacing our current water meters in the township with new, accurate, and precise digital meters to meet our townships needs over the next 10 years all units will have been replaced.
